My name is Jason and am originally from Santa Claus, IN. Yes, Santa Claus. I moved to Kansas and lived there for a while and just moved to Houston. I enjoy spending as much time as possible outdoors work in IT and Engineering. Currently, I head up QC for a company.

My Papa got me into this hobby. He was an over-the-road truck driver most of his life and enjoyed taking his detectors all over the US and Mexico. After retiring, he traveled all over the U.S. and detected. He wrote stories about his locations and finds. I hope to have the same experience and luck when I'm older!

I do not have any detectors anymore and cannot purchase any at this time. I still, however, love this forum and have been lurking for some time. I'm looking forward to some great chats with y'all!

Howdy Houston. Welcome to Tnet. Would love to read some of your Pops works if you can give his name & some of his works I will try to find them. Since you don't have an MD, perhaps it would be a good time to do some research in preparation for when you get one. Go to court house, look at old maps, historical societies are always good resources, (& I have found they usually are happy to share their info, but usually not on line) Once you know some areas that have history, you could try just "eye balling" it. There are some good bottles out there, & you don't need a detector for that. & with any luck, you will find some that are worth money & can help to buy detector. Have fun, be careful, & post pics of your finds.

Thanks for the warm welcome! His name was Gary Winters. He also went by his given-name, Darryl. It appears that there are a few people with the same name that metal detect. He died many years ago. I don't have any links to his articles-- I just read several he sent me before he died. He lived in Valparaiso, Indiana. I would look around, but our firewall at work blocks about anything that's interesting. :)

I have eye-balled quite a bit and have found some cool bottles and what-not. I do plan on buying another detector in the next year. I just have to get some things in order first. My wife and I have three kiddos and, well, kids are wonderful blessings, but they aren't cheap. Thanks again, mama!

Welcome Jason! I'm just up the road from you in Spring. Lots of detectorists are in the Houston area.

Awesome! Feel free to PM me for contact info! I'd love to get together-- even if I can't detect. I love hanging out with folks!
I will actually be in Spring tonight for dinner with a friend of ours.
