- Metal Detecting
Hello all! Well, my name is John and I am, I guess, returning to metal detecting. My late Uncle Derwood and his wife, Marie, were into metal detecting in the mid-70's. I was about 15 and became interested in it. They let me use one of there Whites a couple of times. Found a few coins but nothing interesting. Like a typical teen I got tired of it and found other, less expensive hobbies.
Fast forward to now. I'm 59 and a bit disabled but can still swing a detector but I can't walk very far without numerous rest breaks. A couple of years ago I bought a Whites 3900/D at a yard sale for cheap. I haven't really used it except in the back yard. I buried a couple of coins so I could have targets to practice with. Machine works okay but it I can't get the tones set correctly---- it seems to drift I guess. I'm guessing the electrolytic caps have dried up. I plan to work on it eventually. I've restored several tube radios and various older modern radios and circuits so I'm well versed in diddling around with electronics.
So, since my Whites is not reliable (plus it's heavy and annoys my arthritis!), I ordered a Garrett Ace 250 a couple of days ago. It is what I can afford right now! I'd like to do some exploring in Nevada and Utah but my time is very limited as I provide full-time care to my 85 year old Mom. I dont have anyone reliable I can call on to stay with her so Major trips are probably unworkable at present.
I'm on a couple of gun forums----- ones a free for all at times and the other is fairly straight laced---- so I'm fairly versed in internet forums.
Well anyway, that's all I can think of to write right now.
