For people who are starting to detect..... it takes a lot of digging, good and bad, to find silver... Find a location, where there may be silver... this is very important, but, lets look at the other stuff....

First, you need to dig a bucket and a half of misc. scrap metal objects... not every target will be good....make sure you don't re-bury them... take them home and re-cycle...

Aside from the scrap metal, you will dig a bucket of copper and a bucket of brass..... these you can sell to a metal recycler for cash, to buy other detecting equiptment ..

Then , in order to get your quality silver, you must dig enough clad coins, junk jewelry and misc. good stuff to over flow your treasure chest...

After, all this, thousands of digs.... you end up with 100 pcs of silver.....

Metal detecting, is exercise without thinking about exercising, and is the best way to see nature close up and get your mind off anything that might be bothering you.... Be healthy, have fun, enjoy detecting and may God Bless

A must read and reminder for all of us.
Nice job

Looks like I have Much MUCH more digging to do!

Cheers to that silver!

Wow! Great work. Huge number of Merc's!! Interesting mix / ratio of coins. I would think more GW's, Rosie's and at least a couple halves, but your sites probably tend to older time frames. I'm hoping for 50 this year, but have some work to do. Congrats!!

That's a bunch of nice Silver. Also a dandy way to recycle...awesome !!

totally true, a lot of the bad or not so great stuff to dig to find the good stuff. thousands of digs that you can't even remember but you have the proof of in buckets of scrap. And that is why the good stuff is so appreciated by those that do it as well. it is hard earned treasure. great post

Great post, great finds ! Your last paragraph is so true. Before I finally took up Metal Detecting some years ago, I loved fishing, still do but Metal Detecting takes me to a different place that gets my mind off the stresses of my job and life.

Well done, congrats and HH

Congrats on a spectacular pile of silver! I agree, gotta dig a LOT of crap to get the good stuff, gotta put the work in.

I too am amazed at the number of mercs compared to the rosies - I understand that the mercs were a longer run than the rosies ,but does that alone explain it ?

I couldn't agree with you more than 100%!!!!!! Out our way we certainly have more days where we have nothing to show than days where we share our finds. At least 3 to 1 ratio. But I don't care. Its all about getting out and enjoying our time away from "IT ALL".

If I didn't have this hobby; I would be a complete stress case and hate people more than I already do. Of course everyone here is not on that list and others I meet detecting!:laughing7:

I enjoy showing others and taking them out to learn. I am glad when there is 3 or 4 of us who our out and about and just "somebody" finds something even when they may have the only coin for the day!!!!!

Great post sir!!!!!!!!

Very well laid out post, especially showing all the scrap copper and brass.
And the 6 Standing to 7 Washington is a excellent ratio.
Would be a good story for W&E!
Kudos,
Carl
