How would you feel finding a coffin???

I wouldn't know either.... If you put it into the trash you'd be charged with some felony like illegal disposal of a human body. And if you just re-buried it in the woods you'd be asked what happened to it. And if you said "none of your business" you'd probably be charged with "something" also.

If the city was the responsible party originally then why aren't they stepping up now?

I wonder if they would yell at you for putting it on public display as part of your metal detecting finds? Just thinking out loud..:dontknow:

Well, my 18 acres is right next door to the local cemetery.
We also have an Indian mound on our cordwood construction site, which is right next to the cemetery.
It's all on what you've been taught, how you were raised.
As history goes, and for the sake of compassion, it's sad a child died. But there have been millions since.
I think if I found something like this, I would just fill it back in, leave it and move on.
There really is no story, except they made it so. Hype is necessary from or in the "news" though.

Let's see....a small high-quality coffin was found in what used to be a cemetery. The cemetery was ordered moved by the city. Unfortunately, this one, small coffin was overlooked. Recently, the coffin was found. Due to the high quality of the coffin, there are 2 glass windows with which to see inside. Skin, flowers, everything was intact. Then the ME's office decides to break the seal? What were they thinking - that the girl might still be alive? That it might be a more recent death? It's painfully obvious that whomever ordered the coffin to be opened should be responsible for providing a proper resting site, ESPECIALLY since the ME's office is part of the city that ordered the cemetery cleared to begin with! ....Sounds like the city is looking out for their own $$'s - more wasted on doing the right thing means less to go into their own pockets.

I've known for a long time that California is corrupt, but this really takes the cake!!

most if not all city government is corrupt .do you notes only ignorant people run for city office . they don't know much excepted money talks .

Coffin of Young Girl Found Beneath San Francisco Home

I guess I'm demented :unhappysmiley: if the City would have told me
I was responsible for it. It would have become mine.
And as long as there are no odors of course. I would have given her a Home in my house Collection.

If I find a Million Dollars in Gold in a coffin,
or an Indian. & I don't have a Death certificate ,
am I responsible for getting rid of them Too ?

Hi; First is that it MUST be moved by the City. NOT individual Residents. Second is that people need to stay way clear of it because NO ONE knows what kind of DISEASES that thing possesses and could spread. Even though it has been in the ground all that time ANY diseases it is contaminated with have laid dormant until it was opened. Those diseases will spread like wild fire and there may be no cure.!!! I would not want to be the poor guy that has to handle that thing for sure.
This same thing happened here in Boston. Only it was a case of Vandalism where 2 idiots broke into a tomb. Then there was a City Wide search for them idiots because of the diseases associated with graves. Think about it guys. This is no joke for sure. Someone can actually die from that stuff. The City needs to act NOW.!! Before someone becomes contaminated. And if they are walking around the City after the exposure they can spread those diseases to everyone else. Then you have a REAL Crisis on your hands. They need to act NOW and seal off that site. Please keep us informed as to what happens ok. PEACE:RONB

Well, as it was the Medical Examiner's office that broke the seal, I have to expect that they would take that into consideration - even if it IS in California! :dontknow:

California seems to declare everything but Pot & strange People bad for your Health, even second hand Smoke :tongue3:
I would think if there was any doubt. they would be saying dead bodies cause Cancer

So if you had found a cache of gold coins where an old bank once stood but was now privately owned by you, would they be your responsibility or the old banks? I bet they would say they need to examine it to find original owners then keep it for themselves

...Would the old bank and all of it's contents and resources be ordered moved by the city? Besides, you can't quite compare inanimate objects to people. That's not a fair thing to do. ...True, that little girl stopped being part of the living many decades ago, but we should still respect our dead.

...Ok, let me counter with this: If you find a beautiful woman passed out in your yard, no ID, no nothing, are you allowed to keep her? We even try to find the home of lost animals. But because the city ordered the cemetery moved, AND because the ME's office (also the city) made the decision to break the seal, then how can they be exempt from their actions?
