I have several oz. of gold to melt into a button or bar. I have several crucibles and a gas ax. Do I need some kind of flux to keep spatter down?

Will I be able to sell it once I do it? I have heard it can be hard to sell. Thanks for any advice. NVRADAR

I would send it into ARA... They will refine it for you, and send it back minus 2%, which is not much at all... It would be in BB form though, but then it would be much easier to melt and mold into an ingot, etc...

Thanks for the info Silver Surfer. I'll check them out.

I use borax .to shield to gold . google different methods . to much to sit here and type ...... look in gold prospecting section ,I do have some old post on this topic that will help . I believe it's under rock salt nugget .

Hey fellas thanks for the responses. I kinda like the raw form here by just dumping it in cold water. What do ya think?

Then thats what I did! ;D COOL stuff huh! I do have a few that do look like corn flakes although a good bit thicker. NVRADAR

To get the BB style, you have to pour the molten gold at a higher distance from the water pot and do it slooooowly and in small amounts. That gives the gold time to "pull" into a ball before it hits the water. It's the same technique used years ago to make lead buckshot.

Yep it makes perfect sense. I just like the strange shapes it makes. ;D ;D
