How to get gold out of this stone]

Hello,

Recently I moved to the mountains and hearing the stories about gold in the streams I went to check out by myself. I am pure amateur in gold prospecting but I found a stone, I think it is quartz with green veins and when I broke it with hammer I found small pieces of gold incrusted inside the stone. How can I get the metal out of the stone? Many thanks for your advices!

Best regards,
Lobo

crush it up and pan it....

Just keep in mind if you do crush + pan you lose the collectors value of the stone. Placer gold is plentiful almost everywhere, but in all my years prospecting I have only found a couple gold + quartz specimens. Granted such specimens are more common in hard rock mining, but they are still relatively rare compared to placer deposits.

...true...

Without doing bunches of typing about how I process stuff and how I know ...........
I can tell you if it's not a decent naked eye specimen you might as well go with crush
and extract . Believe it or not ...... by the time you fist the cash you may well come
out better anyhow .

Hello,
Thanks a lot to all of you for your opinion and help. I know almost nothing about gold prospecting but as I moved to the mountains and I heard that there are some deposits of gold out there, I got interested. So you think that the piece of quarz with this speck of gold inside is more valuable that to get that piece of gold out of it by crushing it? How much could be for the piece of quarz like this one I have got? I have absolutely no idea.....
Thanks a lot one more time....

Best regards,
Lobo

First, I would suggest taking a small sample and have it assayed. You said you are new to prospecting, so what you are looking MAY NOT be gold.

Hello,

Yes, it is possible that it could be pyrite, I really do not lnow. We found another stones covered with tiny golden cover. Here is the picture. What do you think?
Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Lobo

Hey Bob, I might suggest you take a hard point, like a drill bit and press it into the "color", if it breaks... pyrite, if it dents... possible gold.

Assays are generally expensive. Look up how to do a streak test online and try that--almost no expense involved.

All the best,

Lanny

I assume you're in the Dom. Rep. If you are any where near Pueblo Viejo where Barrick gold corp has found reserves of 25 million ounces, you probably
have good ore.

Hi guys,

Thanks again for your advices. Yes, I am in the Dominican Republic, where I work as a historian and marine archaeologist, but I moved to the central mountains recently. Barrick Gold in Pueblo Viejo is close to Cotui, about 100 kilometers from here. I will try to do some kind of assay of this stone in Santo Domingo. I will keep you posted.

Hello,

I have one question for you guys (sorry if it is stupid.....). If there is bornite and quartz with pyrite stones in the area, it could mean that there is also gold arround or it means nothing in particular?
Thanks for your answers......

Regards,
Lobo

As bornite is a primary ore of copper, and pyrite is iron sulfide, it just means that your rocks have mineralization. When prospecting, most would consider this
a very good sign that gold might be associated.
