A redbook is very useful for us CRHers. It has the mintage information for all US coins. The price however is not always accurate but still can be used as reference.

This tip was posted on another forum a couple years ago. I will re-post here maybe some new members here can take advantage of.

Every other week, Hobby Lobby will have an online coupon which can be printed out. This coupon entitles a 40% off for ONE item in the store. The list price of Redbook is $14.95. After 40% off, it is less than $9. You can save $6 for your gas tank :icon_thumright: If you have a Hobby Lobby store in your city, why not save $6? We CRHers drive around the city anyway so this can be arranged en route for doing other things.

I also use this coupon for coin tubes/coin pages. Hobby Lobby in my area does carry some US mint albums which are not to my taste. I wish they carried the Dansco series.

Does Hobby Lobby also sell coins?
No, not acutual coins. Only some books and some supplies.

I have a Hobby Lobby practically within walking distance of me. Too bad I already got my Red Book at a Coin Dealer. Maybe I should go get some books/tubes though.

I agree.. a Redbook is key for every coin collector.. I still use my 1984 version that I have. No Hobby Lobby in my area so I'll have to stick with the 84 one I have.

Bump! I posted this last year since then there are many new IDs appeared. Maybe someone can use this information. I relocated and no more Hobby Lobby nearby for me.

I got my Redbook for $3 at a used book store. It is 2008 dated. Also bought a 1976 to look at how the prices changed. Astonishing!

Red Book ...is that the one that lists retail prices, or wholesale dealer prices?

The Red Book lists the retail prices.

You all might want to try Barnes and Noble too. I got the 2010 edition last year for under $6 if I recall correctly.

Hobby lobby also sells cardboard 2x2s, magnifiers and coin tubes.

whitman publishing sends you a post card w/ your order for a latest "prior year" red book along with 2 coin folders for $5.

to get that post card, I just ordered a dime folder for $3.99 no shipping during a promotion.

i got mine red book 2011 for $5 with 2 state quarter folders.

I saw a 2009 sold on ebay recently for .99cents and a 2010 for $3

I have been doing the 40% coupon thing for quite a while now - there's nothing like getting a shiny new penny book that retails for $3.99 for $2.50. The postcards are in all of the coin folders, so you could probably just grab one out of there without actually buying one, if you want to be even more frugal!

Thanks for the bump! It never occurred to me to go to Hobby Lobby for coin supplies. I guess I always think of it as a place for fabric and fake flowers.
