How to find necklaces at the beach?

Thanks guys, but I like to metal detect to find things, anything. I love to find big rings but also enjoy finding anything of value. I reliaze you guys are "professionals" but I'm a guy who just likes to hunt. I'm still happy to play clean up behind you guys, plus I would like to no everything about our hobby.

I really appreciate all of your help, you guys are the best, thats why I've come to you with this issue.

Thanks, speedi2you (Future Pro)

Speedi, have you visited the Master's site? http://www.nmhra.netfirms.com/pulltab/

Everyone had to start from somewhere. I am stuck inland now because of health but hit the freshwater beaches now and I know my find ratio has gone up because the beach goers are concentrated into smaller areas and the finds are closer together. :hello2:

Alot of those neclaces are hollow gold which makes a big difference

The few that I have found with the MXT have all been scratchy, the signal was broken like when hitting a small piece of trash. & I was swinging very slow. I think if you can find a single small ear ring you should be able to find a necklace. Low & slow & remember for some of the stuff you have to did everything.

I understand that it also depends on whether the sweep of the coil is across the length or width of the necklace. Either way its probably slight.

Since I started detecting 2 years ago I had only found one 10K gold necklace at the beach, It was last summer when it sounded like a change in the threshold on my BHID 300.

I'll have to jump up on the cart... Necklaces are tough to find.
At least half those I've recovered were probably because of some sort of medallion hanging on them.
A couple heavy silver chains gave a fine signal, though.
Completely different animal than Au...

Good luck

Search in All Metal, Sensitivity and volume at max, Signal balance (IF you have it) as high as you can get it while keeping reasonably stable operation and dig every target.

Or, get a High frequency machine like the Gold Bugs, LST, any machine with a frequency at or above 15khz that has good manual ground balance capability. If you have to use auto GB then be sure that you are scanning fast enough not to balance out fine gold items. Use an 6 to 8 inch coil either DD or concentric, forget discrimination and stick between the water line and the dry sand and work relaxed and slowly listening for every hickup in the threshold.
the fine chains do not go deep. Do not use Silent Search mode.

If you want to find the chains lost in the salt water then you are limited to just a few machines that operate smoothly in salt mineralisation; Like the BHID, Excalibur, Sov and Explorer series, Sand Shark, and similar machines. Most of the PI machines are not good on gold chains compared to the high frequ VLFs.
Just my opinion, I am sure others have differing and alternative ideas.

They show up as foil on my MXT... Took the advice of another member, and set my disc between 2 and 3, and I have found very small gold items, like earring backs.. VDI of 3 and showed as foil....
Same thing yesterday with a gold plated, very fragile, chain.. Showed as foil and was 5-6 inches down..
