Anyone here know what to look for to find gold? Well, I mean other than gold itself! I am kinda new to gold country and could be walking all over this stuff with no clue! I am talking about the old prospector way. What to look for in the terrain and surface mineralization. I KNOW for a FACT that there is gold in them thar hills! I am not one to stick my detector up in the rocks, as I am usually trying to hunt the dirt, but wouldn't mind finding a nice chunk! I hear a lot about black sand, and quartz, but is there anyplace I should look specifically? Where will the gold settle out of the water in a wash? Basically, what I need to know is, what should I be looking for while I am detecting?

I am not a gold hunter but the knowledge I have is from researching and reading on the net and the gold prospecting sections of various forums including this one. I don't know that anyone could give you a comprehensive answer to your questions in the limited space of this forum. What I do know is that if you are serious about it, you need to have a specialized detector which is specifically tuned to find gold. There are any number of them listed under the various manufacturers. A quick rundown can be found by going through the Kellyco website whether you wish to buy from them or not. Then you need to scan varioius books and articles to find out where gold has been or can be most likely located. Some geology books may contain information on rock formations , etc to look for if they are not too technical. Then there are various clubs and organizations that are set up spefically for gold prospectors that you may wish to contact or join. Through these clubs or organiations you are likely to meet people with the same interests that are willing to assist you or work with you to gain access to various sites where gold is likely to be found. All that remains is for you to possess the physical stamina and the time to devote to all the hard work it takes to place that coil over the gold. Then if you are very lucky you may be fortunate enough to find enough gold to pay for your gear and put a little change in your pocket. jimakaks
