I have been digging a lot of old silver coins from a very old beach area and if course they are all black from tarnish , instead of buffing them how are you guys cleaning them up? Some can't even see the years because of tarnish so bad.

I think you would get a bigger response by posting on the correct forum. I would repost it under Cleaning & Preservation forum or General Discussion. This really doesn't have anything to do with Garrett so most people are not going to see it. By the way I use hot hydrogen proxide if it has crud on it. Otherwise I just use soap and water. Hope this helps.

Thanx I looked before hand but could not see , but I do now thankyoy , a mod can remove and I will repost

Although my previous comment may be conceived as facetious or sarcastic to some, it still is the sad truth, I cant resist polishing silver crap sometimes.

Don't polish silver coins; it destroys their value simply clean them with a soft brush and some soapy water.

badpenny is correct you dont want to polish any valuable coin no matter what it is. I will occasionally polish a common silver coin, one were loss of value is not an issue. I like Jason's idea but I don't dig enough black silver to experiment.
