Today at the old fairgrounds, I found a silver half at the edge of one of the slag covered roads. This coin was only three or four inches deep, but was in a section of road that was originally built with slag from boilers. My detector which is a Whites V3i was really cracklin and popping in this slag. I turned the gain way down and started finding coins, but most were encrusted in chunks of rust. I know it is a silver half because some of the reeded edge is exposed. I have tried everything to loosen this iron, but nothing is working. I know the coin is already toasted , but I want to know what is under the iron coating. Any advice on how to get this stuff off? Thanks R.L.
