How they mined gold in the old days. Here's Brazil

I found this on the gold mine in brazil before it flooded.
1985: Inside Brazil's massive Serra Pelada gold mine
Great pictures, I can see the Spainards making Indians do the same work for them in placer areas.
Makes it hard to look at a lake in Mexico or S.A. without thinking, is it covering an old mine?

the picture with the guy in the clean red shirt is crazy.. everybody in the back ground is suffering and filthy.. he is clean with a gold watch on his wrist.. i wonder if time really mattered that much.. he must have been a troublesome fella.. probably has a machine gun just out of the picture.. lol. amazing by hand they removed all that dirt.. now its a lake, they must have gold fish.. lol.. thanks for the read..
