Putting bells on cows goes back to the 15th century. The shape of yours was popular between 1800-1900, but was also used up to the 1950's. Interesting find! Breezie

It was made on May 5, 1932 in Youngstown, Ohio, and then shipped to parts unknown in the U.S. It was "released" on September 21, 1938, when the farmer decided it was time to sell the herd, so he rounded up all the cows, separated them from the babies, and hauled off the babies and some of the older moms to the "house." This particular mama was stubborn, and in the process, the rope around her neck gave way, thus releasing the infamous cow bell. She stomped it in the ground, where it lay hidden for 72 years.

Why not ???

We mountain range our cattle during the summer and bell all of the older cows as the younger ones always stay fairly close to them so we always know where they are.Have been doing it for 6 generations now so I guess some of them bells are antiques!!!
