The bottom is 4 inches across.
Across the top is almost 7 inches across.
2 1/2 inches from top to bottom.

Cherry. Other than that I don't know how you could tell the age. We have local craftsmen making them currently that look identical at fairs and flea markets.

Carved wooden bowls often tend to become oval over time due to the shrinkage of the wood in one dimension and not as much the other. Most notable in the top portion.
Yours appears to have been turned on a lathe, so would have been pretty much truly round to start with... Of course it depends on how dry the wood was I guess... I dunno, it's just the only tidbit I could add.

As a seasoned turner (40+ years), the bowl has all of the attributes of a beginners learning project. Also could be a demonstration sample on how-to-do-a-simple turning.

It may be old being that it used a backin plate with a centered attachment screw...many newer attachments available nowadays.

Note the thick sides, flat top and lack of rolled edges or recessed bottom footing for stability.
