✅ SOLVED How Old is this Knife?

Since it's usable on both sides maybe it's more of a dagger. I found this in the woods near an old gold mine that was active in the 1800's. Square nails, suspender clips and this knife were my "haul" for several hours of hunting. It feels newer but that's just a gut feeling. Maybe a hunter lost it more recently??? Haven't cleaned it up yet so not sure if there are any makers marks.

The blade is approximately 6.5 inches and the handle is about 4 inches.

have to agree, it just does not have that hand made gold rush look.

Marked "EGW KNIFE"

Cleaned it up a bit and can barely make out EGW and KNIFE near the guard.

Looks to be WW2 era ... non-military issue. That notch towards the middle of the blade is kind of unique.
