Hi everyone, this is my first post on TN forums. I was following TN for 3 years.
But i have never being a member until today.
Sorry about that ;)

I have 7 years experience as a detectorist and i travel different countries and detect in them for 7 years.

Now im in South Korea for almost 1,5 years.

By the way, i found this bronze statue at dry sand on the beach. it was very far away from the sea. at 25cm below the surface.
i know very well its a zodiac statue but i could not be sure if it is antique or not.
Could you please help me about it, what's your opinion?

Statue lenght is around 4cm and height 2,5cm.
Very little statue.

Here's a chess set with what looks like African animals, but I 'd think it came from something like this.

Thanks to all for nice comments.

First of all i was thinking in the begining that it was a piece of a toy as you mentioned.

But there were things which made me think the opposite way.

1- It is too small. There is no such game which Koreans play with it. They usually prefer to play with plastic materials and they never give those kind of bronze things to their children for play.

2- I found it on very dry sand and so far away from the sea, also there was nothing like table or something else to put the game on it.

3- When i found it, it was very dirty with corrosion and i cleaned it.

There are somethings that make my mind unclear about it's age.
I agree with that it is molded and not old but even if it is older than 50 years i would like to know it.

Ty again for all comments and interest.

Regards, Ariel.

Good morning and welcome to Tnet from Toronto Ariel! :hello:

I don't think your bronze statue is very old, maybe from the 1980s or later. :icon_scratch:
I'm basing my guess on the style of casting, the subject matter and the lack of corrosion on your piece.
I feel that if it had been buried in the sand for many years, being so close to the sea and the salt air that it would have a lot more verdigris on it.

My feeling is that it's a votive offering to the gods.

"A votive offering or votive deposit is one or more objects displayed or deposited, without the intention of recovery or use, in a sacred place for religious purposes.
Such items are a feature of modern and ancient societies and are generally made in order to gain favor with supernatural forces."

It is a yantra bull. Buddhist, I think.

A prayer offering for strength or protection. I don't think it is very old.

"i know very well its a zodiac statue ..."

No you don't.

"How old is this bronze statue?"

If it was cool to the touch when you found it, then it's probably more than an hour old.
