I've dug a few suspender buckles, but this one is a new style for me. It's brass and it measures 1 1/4" by 2 1/2". I found it in the woods and it was a good 6 inches down. Very fragile, considering that it's made of brass. Probably been in the ground for quite awhile.
No patent date on it, so I can use some guesses as to it's age. Seems kind of large for a suspender buckle, but it's too delicate to be horse tack. Thanks for your help!
