LOL, I remember the first time I saw beer in an all aluminum can, it was HAMM's, and yes, that was quite a few years ago. :tongue3: I agree with 50's by the phone number and by the era of ciggie's being very popular.

NOTE: Beverage cans made from aluminum were first introduced in 1965. :tongue3:

"from the land of sky blue waters" saying was used in 1951 onward --the bear was used 1953 onwards --(both the saying and bear on on the ashtray to have both it must be 1953 or later & combined with the "early" phone number) I'd say - post 1953 to early 60's time frame --the hamms beer company had lots of gimme items (like ash trays) and other decorative bar items for bar owners that used / promoted its product , it was during that time frame that they were making a big push to become a nationall brand rather than just a regional one.

I remember the bear commercials and the saying, "Fom the land of sky blue waters".
I was born in 1956, and the commercials must have ran into the low 1960's, because I remember them clearly.

Hamms was a very light mild beer as I remember. Reminded me of Coors. They had both at the local joint that would sell to teenagers back in 1960-62. The owner was blind and couldn't tell how old we were. Beer was the drug of choice in my teenage years. I never saw pot until I went into the military. Of all things, some air policeman was always the ones getting busted for selling it! Monty

Andy Hamm was my grandfather, who died in in the early 80's...He has everything from imprinted ashtrays to card decks rolling around out there from his days as a distributor. Below's his picture.... I believe these ashtrays were around in the early to mid 50's. My father always talks about how they had stacks of these around the house...

just a little history if anyone is interested. Any interest in selling it?

I sold it on Ebay last spring for $52 . It arrived smashed .

I wrapped it in bubblewrab and used lots of peanuts . I refunded the persons money and he sent it back to me .

I have not thrown it away , thinking I might some day glue it . I would be glad to send the pieces to you Trilobyte .

It was the first time I ever had an Ebay transaction go bad . He gave me good feedback though .

Hey tribolite, welcome to the forum. Hope you stick around. All of us are history buffs and the info about your grandfather was really interesting. Do they still make Hamms beer? I use to drink beer and was kind of a conasuer of different brands. It was one of my favorites. Monty

sorry guys, just checked in again for the first time. glad i could bring a little history to this....

its always nice to add a touch to all these antiques and where they come from...i could go into stories for hours about my father and his siblings experience with the beer distribution business in St. Cloud.

funny enough, i saw this ashtray at a hamms show (my family and i go once a year) and they wanted 150 for it...

and yes, they still brew hamm's, although in the glory of a chest case (30 cans) i don't know :)

thanx for the welcome Monty. mojjax, if you wanted to send the pieces i can certainly paypal the S&H to you...probably wouldn't want to pay much extra for it based on the condition tho ;)

sometimes the post office will break the stuff i think to get you to buy insurance next time. it has happened to me. i wrapped and double wrapped still broken. also i wonder if the purchaser may not of liked it and broke it to avoid paying high price. i have had many good transactions and just 2 like yours.
