lets compare scrap prices worldwide

stats for Belgium where I live:

8k €10.30/g or $14.31/g
9k €11.25/g or $15.63/g
10k €12.65/g or $17.58
14k €19.05 or $26.47
18k €24.55 or $34.12
925 silver is bought for €670 or $931 for 1000 grams (35oz)

I have this strange feeling that in the US prices are lower when you bring your jewerly to sell for scrap, am I wrong ?

U.S. Conversion Charts are Here

However Depending on where You see,
Like TV adds you can get 10% of Melt

Pawn shops 50% & Up

& Actual Buyers of Precious Metal
Who will pay Anything all the way up to
100%

So it's tuff to Nail Anything down

Jeff is right, it is hard to nail down. Many people that sell their gold for scrap prices sell it to the crooks that advertise on TV and not to a refinery.

I generally give, as a refiner, 80% to 98% for scrap, most often 90 to 95% and 98% after refining. depends on quantity as I do this for a living time cant be wasted on micro lots where I only make a dollar. I always buy my own product back at 98% as well. prices vary according to how difficult it is to refine or work, and quantity. when I buy 20 to 100 oz of gold at a time directly from placer mines...they get 98.1

On silver scrap I pay 80% to 90% depending on quantity and the purity of the silver. 97% for fine, including my own product.

In some cases of high demand I pay more, obviously for finished products like gold and silver Eagles, I am usually always paying more than spot for them in the current market. For Junk and unsalable things...they have to be refined. so they go for less. Just depends on how much work needs to go into it in order to make it a good product.
I have more on my site at www.prospectorsgoldandgems.com

Bottom line is. Weather it be me or anyone else. Only work with people who you feel are treating you fair on both the buying and the selling end. Its up to you as to what price you get and who you work with, you can always say yes or no.

ARA Refineries pay for scrap at 98% regardless of quantity and they return any stones or non gold items you sent by mistake.

Midwest Refineries only pays 96% and they don't return stones or non gold items.

I just sent some gold to ARA. They returned my stones, but not a non gold item. I sent the non gold item to see if they returned them, or just melted everything and paid you for the gold content. Maybe they have a new policy.

Maybe they just missed it when they put everything in the acid. I personally never heard of that policy. I once sent them a heavy bracelet and it turned out to be gold filled, they processed it anyway and sent a check for what it was worth.
