It was worth the effort with every rusted piece of old car parts, roofing iron (tin), white goods that were still full of plastics, computers,Vcrs in fact anything had some iron in it that would go through the shredder. $250 was the worst price going around but as of Monday a $150 price drop happens.
I had a few properties to clear rubbish out of for free ( just for the scrap ) over the weekend, now I've had to negotiate a price to charge these folks.

It sure is a real fickle market with the buyers playing games to squeeze the most buck outta scrap

Well, $200 - $250 a ton was what I was thinking, but what do you mean a $150 price drop as of Monday? Why would that be??

I only found out Sat. morning when I noticed a long line of trucks loaded up and was told a story about lack of demand . Being a Sat. morning just a few hours before closing for the weekend , I havn't had time or opportunity to check other yards.
This is the biggest I go to and the smaller yards allways follow the leader, but I'll know for sure Monday.
Anyway this is just a local thing probably ( allthough it all goes to asia regardless of country of origin ).
Just highlighting how variable this industry is .
I sure wouldn't stockpile iron; get it ( when the price is good) and sell it asap.

Thanks everyone, that's great info. $200 per ton should make it worth giving up a weekend for. My buddy owns a few acres, with a large wooded area that is literally loaded with junk. Old car parts, the Ford pickup I mentioned, steel 55 gallon drums, several old refrigerators (and I mean ooold) and much much more. I'll bet if we really scrounge we could pull a grand out of there. We're probably going to wait for cooler weather in October to do it though. Hope the price goes up some by then. Thanks again!!!

Hey,
Scrapping here In NH. I hope you didn't wait for October. Its 3 cents a pound at the Wentworth Scrap Yard in Portsmouth NH. A ton is gonna get you $60. Its sad. But if you got enough of it you can make a couple hundred. The price here is pretty bad though, might be better where you are.
I remember reading some of your first posts, that is the same time I started scrapping. Good Luck to ya
