So is it possible to wear out a detector? A buddy of mine has a BH and he swears that it's not as good as it used to be. He was somewhat disheartened the fact that big hunks of rusty iron and big hunks of aluminum ring high as silver.

So the question is, are there parts that wear out? Are there so many hours for a coil? Are there parts on the circuit board that can go bad from use?

Tell your friend that even $1000 detectors ring....big iron/round iron/big aluminum/round aluminum...as silver.

As far as wearing out a detector....a coil cover is recommended as there have been rare occasion where somebody has worn through the coil with heavy usage in rough terrain. There is no hour limit unless running a wireless coil like a Xp Deus or whatever.

Circuit board should last for many many years...10-20 years easy if you take care of it and keep it dry and clean.
