I'm wondering, ... and posting here to ask anyone who may know, how far off the beach one could expect to find rings and jewelry that has been lost in a surf zone?

Here's what I'm thinking....please correct me if I'm bonkers..

Over a long period of time, and after several storms during winter months, sands move and surge outward from the surf zone to the open sea?...

1) Could lost rings and jewelry be carried out to 80-100 yards? Or more?

If so, is it then possible to anchor a boat just off the beach, just past the "no boat zone" buoys, and swimmer areas, to dive/detect for rings from years gone by....?

2) Would the rings, etc... be detectable or too deep?

3) How long does the "carrying" process take for the distance I am suggesting? Does it matter?

I suppose some of my thinking is wishful for an adventure. Any information would be appreciated.

Please forgive me if this has already been discussed in a past post..

Thank you...

You would need a hydrologist with a model of the currents at a particular beach to give a good answer, but there are three basic concepts that may help. One is that objects denser than the sand will continue to sink until they hit a denser surface (e.g. gravel or clay). Second, objects will deposit themselves by density. In other words, if you had a current going along (parallel to) the beach, you would find that objects would be lined up from heaviest to lightest along the beach (this could be applied to currents perpendicular to the beach, but you have no visible signs in this case because the area is underwater). Third, heavier objects that fall into a hole, or trough, tend to stay there, although they can be covered up easily too.
