Do you group things by type of object (all buckles or bullets), or do you group by location (this is everything I have found at this home site). I am starting to get enough treasures from different sites to wonder about this. What's the best way to catalog everything with info such as where it was found and when?

I don't have many relics, but all the cool stuff in one box, clad in another, and junk in the garbage.

Outstandings in 2X2 flips in 3 ring binder pages.
Decents by type in antique curved glass four shelf display case.
Larges and other various displayed on shelves and walls around house.
Or you could just sell every item you find for $5000 like Rick Savage :laughing7:
Cataloging is another story. I start by uploading all pix by date into annual folders,
then copy them into specific folders with info attached.
I can usually locate any find photo I need in a short period with this method.
I have installed the free 'Collectors notebook' program which looks like a great way to organize,
but have yet to start using it.
have fun!!

Group them by type of object. The location is not an issue because we GPS most items & have maps of every field. However, you might want to keep a simple log by location before sorting them. One day you may need a spare room.

Just making it up as i go...:tongue3:
