Hey everyone,
Havent been too active on here for awhile but now that its finally warming up I think im catching the bug again. Ive been doin some searching on google earth around my area and found a few hopeful places. The first one might have a mound where the trees are in the field, I havent drove by yet. The second one is really close , I just need to ask permission sometime, Ive found a few pieces in the creek but never realized how close the field comes to the split in the corner of the picture so It looks pretty good as well. My eyes may just be fooling with me but in the first pics the lighter colors may indicate a rise or some kind of disturbance. . mabey due to an old village site??

second place, seems like anywhere two creeks meet is a good spot, Ive found a few knives in the creek right next to where that ground looks worked in this pic.

The higher spots along that river look promising. Late prehistoric stockaded villages appear as donuts or horseshoes from the air. That light colored U shape in the first picture could possibly be one. I've found several on google earth around my area.

thats just what i was thinking, We looked at some early stockade sites in my anthro class that looked alot like this, kinda like bullseyes as theyd expand the stockade out over time, the creek next to it is the same one in the second pic just farther downstream. Im not sure who owns the land but around here theres not too many artifact hunters, just farmers that will pick something up every now and then while they're plowing (I guess that counts though). Hopefully I can get over there and check it out before spring break ends.

First picture bottom above the curve what appears to be high ground looks good. In a bend like that the water could possibly cross over that curve in a flood so they will camp higher. Also a curve puts you close to shallow water and oxygen in the water. Crossing and mussels maybe as well. Check the high spots first. If the field is very rocky chances are it may not be very good. They enjoyed good smooth ground to live on. Take two side by side fields that are identical but one is rocky and the other is one not. Hit the smooth field first every time. The rocky second.
I was taught this a long time ago and it has saved me many hours in finding the sites. You can have a 1000 acre field and maybe one or two acres area that produces.
Good luck and keep us posted on how you do on these topos.
