Does anyone know how to remove calcium deposits from granite artifacts? I'm thinking about using vinegar but not sure if that will harm the stone. It's on a grooved maul and I really don't want to mess it up. Thanks

I would leave it just as it is. Why try to remove that patina and take a chance of ruining the artifact? If you have cleaned it with warm water and a toothbrush then I would leave it just as it is.

Reaper is right, if you clean it to much it wont look as old, nice find:thumbsup:

for sure i agree that what reap and monster say is the right way to go

Sure is ugly uncleaned......bet it's killer underneath from what I can see...

I know it's unholy but I would much rather see the original piece than it all looking old and cruddy, cause it would be mine and don't care about it's future value. Restoration means ReStore. Geez some people don't even soap-clean points. Looks like it would chip off or dissolve off with the right treatment. The caliche would come off way before the volcanic granite.
Muhaha.

Tom's train of thought is solid. Soak in vinegar if you want to get rid of those deposits.
