How do i make my AT pro work in salt water?

You have to ground balance it. I had the same thing when i first used mine on the wet sand. After i ground balanced it, i adjusted the sensitivity and it worked perfect. When you get back to dry sand, ground balance again.

Thanks but How do I ground balance? Never had to before.

I just hold the coil an inch off the ground. push the ground balance button and bounce the coil up and down from an inch to ten inches. You'll see the number change and you will hear some audio. When it stop making adjustments it's all set to go. There are some videos online. Good luck

Thanks man

You have to do it over the type of ground you will be metal detecting but need to be in a clean area with no signals.

You may find you need to GB several times depending on the sand and how wet it is. Usually in Myrtle the dry sand has one setting, when I hit the high tide line that is drying out I need to change and again when I hit the wet sand. Basically any time the machine starts a lot of beeping do the GB. If sand has been brought in it may balance differently than the original.

Also try standard mode instead of Pro.

You could trade it in for a Tesoro Sand Shark ;)

That was good..
Besides the ground balancing you may want to turn the sensitivity a notch or two down from the top if you haven't already

I don't know much about salt water hunting but I would guess maybe playing with sensitivity and frequencies might help if your still getting a lot of chatter after the GB.

Get a hammer and beat it to death. When you are sure it's dead, get a real saltwater machine.

The "auto" GB probably won't work. You'll have to manually lower it to about 20 or a little less.

There is no guarantee that any GB adjustments will make it quiet, depends on the beach, and amount of mineral, hot rocks, and black sand.

Sure an all quartz (mostly white sand) beach not to much trouble. I've said this many times it is more about the mineral, and hot rocks than the salt. I know that just might start WW3, but is the reason that guy "A" says his machine works good at the beach, and guy "B" says his doesn't. I've experienced it myself within a distance of 100 yards, worked good where I started, and a 100 yards farther along it was terribly noisy, and NO amount af adjustments will make it go away.

That's just so you know if you can't get it to quiet down, it doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with "your" machine.

Good luck. Some beaches are the toughest places to detect, just like panning for gold, the waves have washed the lighter stuff away, and what is left is the heavies, iron rock, hot rocks, and black sand.

I live in pa and have little use for a "real salt water machine" and even if I had 100 machines I would still love my ATpro.

Two days ago in super salty black sand mixed with muck and shells loaded with small bits of iron
Its on my digger in the first photo

The ATP will work in salt water but it can be tricking and noisy but when you go over a target you will here it but you also hear the hot rocks and concentrations of black sand and up here we have a seaweed that seems to concentrate the salt and will sound off as well.
Now go on the Garrett web site and look at ALL their training videos it will help you alot with your machine.
There is no machine built that will perform excellent in all environments so if you plan on hunting beaches mostly then maybe you want to look for a PI detector.
Good luck.
