How do I locate lost silver mine?

While searching for the Dutch Schultz box, in the Catskill Mts, one of my kids came accross a dense heavy rock. I paid no attention, as I was fixated on the box. Now that the box thing is over, I'm wondering if I had a piece of silver ore in my hand that could be from the lost silver mine. Can anyone recommend a condensed account in identifying silver ore, and tracing it to it's source. Thanks.

I'm no expert but the comparsion would be done both on the rock it self and he ore within this may guve you a rough geological location but a sample for the location particulary if it is lost would be a great deal harder
