Just moved into a condo on Rogue River, what can I place in the water here to catch gold? It's about 4ft deep and moving steadily.

I thought about tying a bucket to a rope with large holes in the bottom and attaching bags to the bottom that get finer and finer in mesh size (biggest holes to smallest of course). And let that sit around on the bottom of the river to catch different sizes of material and throw the finest stuff into a blue bowl.

Or do they make anything specifically for this type of river section?

Welcome to the forum! :occasion14:

Where are you? How much do you want to spend? Do you have a claim?:skullflag:

Stake down some sheep skins with the wool still on at the bottom of the stream, and wait about three or four months. Then take them out and carefully shave the wool off and burn the wool in a large metal pan. After all the wool is burnt pan out the concentrates. Hopefully, you might get some gold.
P.S. Welcome to tnet!

Look for a natural collecting point. It will make what your trying to do much easier. You may be able to scoop some random bucket on a rope loads out to pan? Not sure that would work to well and probably not the answer you are looking for. But it might be fun!!

I know what one member would suggest but haven't seen a recent post. I'm watching for it though!! :laughing7:

Look for alluvial fans that's a place where sediments collect. Usually on the inside of a bend and a little further downstream. Places where the water flows around an obstacle tike stump or rock. Any place where the currant slows down. Get a nice deep shovel full and then pan it out at home.
