I have had my v3i for a year now and the deepest i have found coins is around five inch. I have read where some finds are around ten+ and deeper. I buried a silver quarter at about seven and a half inch. I made sure the area was clean of trash where i burried it.My question, why can't I pick it up in factory c&j.Non mineralization or very little, a good ground balance. When I switch to deep silver it has trouble picking it up but it will but not good.My brother has a garrette 250 and will out do me.Is it me or machine?

It depends which coil your using as well but I know for a fact that you should be able to get a dime at 10" with the right coil and a good tuned machine. I detect with a guy that has a V3i and he can get dimes at 10"+ and with the right coil my MXT is able to do that with my deepest dime being at 12". He doesn't run the factory setup to get coins that deep though, white's has a forum and you want to look for magic's program as he really knows the V3i, you might have to tweak it a little for your ground but that would be a better starting point than the factory setup. If your not looking to know what all the settings are and what they do and willing to make and try changes then you bought the wrong detector. If your looking for a turn on and go deep detector that you can adjust on the fly then look at the MXT or MXTpro for multi tone, the MXT will get as deep as the V3i with the right coil but you can't adjust as much or try the changes to lessen or get rid of EMI. What is your sensitivity set at? I found a half dime with mine at close to 8".

Hi Wingmaster: I'm usesing the 10"DD coil. i have been on whites forums and used some of the programs there.I love this machine and still have a lot to learn about it. But i was just wondering how deep others went with the factory C&J program. And yes if I wanted a turn on and go machine I wouldn't have paid this much for this one.I wanted more then that. Thanks for all your answers..HH

Learn to tweak your sensitivity and filters for your ground type and your depth will improve.

+1 its an awesome machine with endless abilities to do & go anywhere, I'm gonna look.around I believe I have some of my programs still & in my soil here I had great ability to get nice deep coins, the separation in iron was very nice, I did use mostly the sef coils all of them, & the stock 10dd one to the sef's in my opinion were definetly worth the investment

Wingmaster what coil was you using to hit the 12" dime?

I am using the 6x8 sef and really like it but want an extra coil for deeper work on my MXT.

Thanks

Throw on a 10x12 sef on that mxt no problem ull hit at 12" u also gotta remember no to spots are the same, & there are alot of variables in gettin big depth but with the right tools ur half way there

Keep in mind that if you dug a hole and put a coin in your probably not going to get a good hit. I don't know how long you need to let the coin sit in the dirt before it gets a halo but your not going to get a hit on a fresh buried coin at that depth anyways, according to all the people that have test gardens that I've read.

Try:

3 Frequency
rx gain 12
disc sens 90
am sens 90
tx boost off
5khz bandpass filter
99 recovery response
20 sat
correlate data
accept all VDI #s (set -95 to -10 a low grunt)
Mixed Mode (very important, all metal channel adds a few inches of depth. VDI numbers still show up even if disc doesn't beep)
Manual Ground balance (no autotrak!)

I'm probably missing a few settings, from memory. Those are the main ones though.

With this setup my V3i has no problem keeping up with my Sovereign or CZ21 in the depth department. If you still cant hit 10" targets, something isn't right with the machine.

Make sure to stomp on the dirt over the coin to really pack it down, and possibly even wetting the ground down then waiting a day for it to dry. Freshly dug holes are not nearly as compact dirt as undisturbed ground.

PS. Make sure you are swinging the coil about 2 feet per second, and the coil is an inch from the ground the whole swing... improper swing technique can really kill your depth.

The D2 coil is what I was using for the 12" dimes and I get dimes at 10" a lot of times with that coil, it needs to be pretty clean to hit one at 12" but I've dug a few. There are times where the coin is so deep that you'll lose the signal once you open up the hole, that's when I'll pull out at least 12" and its usually a really deep IH, wheat, or a dime. Don't expect a proper VDI at that depth though as if its barely picking up the target its most likely not going to be right with the VDI numbers. HH
