how can you remove gold plate?

I don't think that will work, gold doesn't oxidize like steel, and if it's like most plating, there isn't enough gold to make it worth the time and effort

WhitesID is young and still has time to do this before retirement.

Wish I knew how.

yes, i don't care how long it will take as long at it will work :)

It's been my experience that gold plating will remove with washing. It's like paint. (In fact, it is painted on.) Get one of those gels that strips paint, and it'll be gone. -Noodle

i want the gold plate, not just taking it off 8)

Well, electrolysis removes metallic particles from nonmetallic particles. So unless the plated object is not made of metal you wont have any luck.

I am not sure how, but people do remove the plating in computer boards and recover the gold. I see computer stuff on ebay for this purpose. They also sell videos on how to remove it for profit. Of course, the profit is from selling the videos...:)

What are you trying to recover?

i got a bunch of old 18k plated rings

there is a way whites id but I wouldn't recommend it Sulfuric acid and cyanide takes it off but then you have to process the sludge. If you aren't careful you can end up dead a slight disadvantage of this method. I was looking into this for removal of gold from old computer motherboards.

For the time and effort not to mention the risk I personally dont think its worth getting it

Electrolysis will remove Gold Plate from Rings.
I have Ruined one by doing this to try & Clean it.
However the Electrolysis will also remove other things
I'm sure & How you would seperate the Gold, I'm not sure.
Maybe High Heat, But ? Is it worth the Risk of loosing it
all ?

I saw a Program on how they Seperate Gold in Computers.
There is under $2.00 worth per board I Believe.
They Pulverize the whole thing & Use temperatures so hot only the Gold Survives.

jeff as far as I know there is about $7.50 aboard early 1980s boards don't know about the later ones
