I have heard several talking about searching houses with a metal detector. Is there a certain way the detector should be held when searching along the baseboards? I have seen several old houses around the country where I live and would like to look for coins in them. Just not sure how to go about it properly. Any suggestions would be great!!

Possibly they were referring to detecting the area around the outside of a house, or detecting a house site where only a foundation still exists. Detecting inside a house with a standard metal detector would be nearly impossible given all of the nails, screws, wiring, etc. used in construction.

If you want to see what's inside walls and floors without just ripping them up, you could do so with portable imaging units that could be likened to an x-ray, but such units are cost prohibitive for general use.

Hope that helps.
