Today's News & Advance indicate that the Lynchburg Museum @ 901 Court Street has info, post cards, etc. from the Franklin Hotel/Norvell House (1817-1885), Hotel Carroll (1894-1959), Western Hotel/Joseph Nicholes Tavern (1814-STILL STANDING), Kentucky Hotel (1814-STILL STANDING), Virginia Hotel (1913-STILL STANDING), Westover Hotel (1891-1970). (434) 455-6226; Lynchburg Museum, so... HH! Good Luck! :coffee2: (I don't have time to check it out... wife & I got TOO much to do).

I know a LOT about the Peaks of Otter Lodges (1st, 2nd [Mons Hotel] & current); 1st Lodge was in the OLD days of Mons, Va. It was MORE like a HUNTING LODGE @ the PEAK of SHARP TOP... WHOO! Peter Viemeister wrote a book on the PoO; THE PEAKS OF OTTER: Life & Times (in Hard Back & Soft/Paper Back). VERY well researched & is the BEST "source"; recommend it HIGHLY! It is available at the Gift Shop up there... BEST to read it FIRST, before going on a "Day Trip" or "Over-niter" up there. ALSO, ANOTHER great source is BEDFORD VILLAGES: Lost & Found, Vol. 1... Peaks of Otter & Mons, Va. pg. 156-181. Done by the DAR; REAL ppl who knew REAL ppl, dogs, racoon or two (Bandit is my favorite... FAT!), etc. CURRENT lodge is @ the Abbott Lake/Pond (Flat Land, at the base of Flat Top); WAS run by US Park Service, now run by Delaware North (Private Resort). It IS different now; wife & I still go for "over-niters"; tho, not as often... PITY! Mons Hotel was "different".

AND! It has NOTHING to do with the Beale Papers Pamphlet/"Job Print"...

Well... of SPECIAL interest, NO mention of Washington Hotel, Washington Inn/House...
The Washington Hotel in Lynchburg was used as a Confederate hospital during the War of Northern Aggression, and from a map, appears to have been on Church St and 8th Street.
