I'm wondering if this could of actually belonged to the famous hotel ritz in Paris? It's looks about the age and it says hotel ritz paris France 1921. There's are slots for I'm guessing people's name tags? I would love to get other opinions??

The face of the clock looks old, but he rest of the piece is modern to me.
But I'm just guessing..

When I saw that battery arrangement I couldn't help but think fairly modern.

Hey koolaid,

In a word, "No!"

I have to say that clock workings are often replaced with modern ones.what intrigues me most is the old growth grain of the red mahagony, man that is some tight grain.try to buy that today...good luck.I'm not sold on opinions that it is not period.perhaps a trip to an antique appraiser is in order.

my two cents.

Hey bigfoot,

Take another look at the front of it. The face grain veneer is Red Oak.

I have seen those clocks for sale (without the wood).

Those works are easily purchased at hobby shops. The space in the back of the case looks like it would have held a bigger works. I'd say it's a retrofit, and the case older.

Yeah the battery thing def through me for a loop too since the home battery wasn't invented until the 1950's. but on the other hand hotel ritz is still very much in business and it could have come from there in just the past few years or so?

I don't know what the 1921 would stand for though since hotel ritz has been in business since the 1800's

looks veneered to me , face grain looks like oak and the back grain looks walnut or mahogany .
i tried to get a closer look at the saw pattern on the back to see if its straight or radial , but it looks radial.
it would not be the first old clock retro fitted with a newer clock workings though .
but i do not think its that old and nhbenz nailed the ID of the clock works being new,, so that leaves the frame its self could be old but i doubt its from france 1920's

It's a cool piece but I have to say it's a reproduction met to embellish a wall as a decoration , the clock face shows no age and looks modern and silk screened ... I 's avoid paying a appraiser to tell me that . If it is genuine it might be a tore down from remodeling the hotel and lost most of it's value and collector appeal when a modern clock work replaced the original , if there ever was a original clock . That being said But it is still very neat to look at . Woodstock
