Hot Summer and Dry Grass- what to do?

With these very hot and dry conditions, how do you hunt those old homes or any permissions without killing the grass!

Simple...Wait for rain. Or, water the grass the night before. The last thing you want to do is leave brown spots all over the place.

You take a spray bottle and mix 90% water with 10% Mirical Grow liquid and shake well. Identify the grass and buy a small amount of grass seed Grass Type Identifier-Helper Tools-Scotts Squirt every plug you dig BEFORE you dig the plug. After opening the hole and retrieving the target, three squirts in the hole, close it, put a little seed on top, squirt three times and you are done.

Never lost an important permission or contract using this method.

I would rather wait for rain than reseed & spray miracle-Gro - anyway due to hot dry conditions once you damage the dry roots the grass will turn brown.

Until this year, most of Texas waited nearly 5 years for rain. Since I'm pushin 70, I thought I'd die of old age before I saw moisture again. Hell, we had people carrying their jalapeno plants standing by fireplugs, waiting for a dog to stop by.

I don't do permissions unless the soil conditions are right. I go in the woods or some other out of the way public lands and detect until it rains or else I go in the water or beaches since I have the 1280X Aquanaut.

Terry has an interesting method, I have never tried it, but will on my back lawn.

If I'm hunting an advanced permission and the grass has a sprinkler system, all is well. Sometimes the home owner volunteers to water his lawn for me. If not, I wait till fall or good down pouring of rain. If that isn't happening waiting till fall or spring is the best bet to not make an angry homeowner and loose possible future permissions (everyone knows someone). GL & HH

I just know that if I tried this method, it would result in mismatched, green spots on the lawn.

Well next week you will have a water machine, so I would go water or shoreline hunting, til you get some good rain.

I only hunt lawns in the winter when the ground is nice and wet and the grass is practically dormant. Summer is for water, beaches, woods, and gravel.
