Found what I'm thinking is part of an old horseshoe while metal detecting on my mountain property in upstate New York over the weekend. However I have never seen a wide toe like this before? Any help as always is much appreciated. 076.JPG077.JPG078.JPG079.JPG

I agree,$(KGrHqFHJF!FCRy,k5puBQpwF+cF2Q--60_35.JPG half of an oxen shoe they have split hoof so you need 2 shoes like the one in your hand they would mirror each other, yours is obviously a shoe as it still has nails sticking out of it.

Thanx Vanzutphen and Back-of-the-boat! With that info I am assuming that it may date back to the 1800s if not 1700s? Was found near one of the stone walls on my mountain property (Bald Mountain, Corinth, N.Y.). The French and Indian Wars, Last of the Mohicans, Revolutionary War, etc. were all part of that area's history. Again many thanks!

1800's or early 1900's would be my guess. I find a lot of them here in RI, especially in the woods along stone walls. Oxen were popular work animals up until the early 1900's or so.
