Pulled this out while working relics on a friend's land. Wouldn't think twice about it as I've pulled a ton of 'em out (Civil War Dragoon maneuvering and staging area) except for the word BOSS on this one, which I have never seen. Did over an hour of research on horseshoe manufacturers, history, stamps, etc. and got nothing.

If anyone could tell me one way or another on this thing, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks,

Ken

I don't think that shoe dates back very far, look at the condition of the nails. I don't think it's been in the ground long, and surely not back to the Civil War.

Nope, definitely not civil war, or even WWI era. Just curious about the marking. Nhbenz, sincerely appreciate your info...didn't even think about a cow shoe. Is it normal to shoe a cow?

Thought I'd add a few more finds from that day's hunt (eagle buttons, tent rope tighteners, 1905 Indian Head, 1886 & 1908 V Nickels, glass handle for percolator coffee pot, U.S. pin, cannon fuse lighter, four-hole U.S. Army buttons, pocket watch guts...etc.).

Any more info on this shoe would be greatly appreciated. As usual, be safe and happy hunting!

yes, all cows that I've seen in jumping competitions or ridden long distances are shod. :tongue3:
No, I was merely pointing out a company in a related field whose markings were similar.
however, Bramblefind's ID was spot on, as they usually are!
