I dug the little shoe over the weekend, the other's are for scale. Did they shoe pony's ? It's the size of my cell phone :icon_scratch: Thank's,also got my tenth Washington Arsenal for the Year:thumbsup:
Yes they did shoe ponies and mules as well .
Mules had longer , narrower feet . Shoes were turned for right and left as well as front and rear as defined by the radius as well as the subtle cast of one branch of the heel calk which is evident in two of the shoes you have posted .
The top one (small one) looks like a rear left mule shoe and the second looks like a front right saddle horse shoe .
The bottom shoe shows evidence of a toe cleat having been forge welded across the apex of the toe radius . That indicates a draft horse shoe .
The heel cast is more subtle but still indicates a right shoe . Whether front or back I can't determine .
Oxen were also shod . Their shoes were in two pieces for each foot to accomodate their cloven hooves .
Hope this helps ....
Jim
