Just pulled these out of the ground (same hole). Bottle appears to be old(ish) and still has the cork in it. There appears to be something (dirt) inside that gives me a signal on my detector. (about 50 TID at 12 kHz)

The items in question are the two iron pieces to the left. I knocked the buildup off one of them. Any ideas?

In case anyone was curious about the bottle. The signal I was receiving was to the metal that I assume used to be surrounded by cork which has since disintegrated. The round piece that I assume was on the bottom of the cork appears to be lead.

Pretty cool just found out the bottle is circa 1880-1900.

Probably D rings from a grith strap.
Nice bottle, that is a huchinson spring stopper.

Thanks taz that looks plausible. Yeah I'm just glad I didn't drive my Sampson into the ground and break it. I did break the spring stopper though. Stupid me had no idea what it was and I used some pliers to yank it out separating it in two pieces.

Sorry, but they're not round-ish enough to be girth strap rings. I believe they are the heavy-duty handles from a metal bucket. That's why opposite sides of the ring are straight, and rounded in between. They were held by a flat piece of metal riveted to the bucket's upper sides. I've seen many photos of them posted here, but I never bothered to Save a photo of them.

Great observation. I'm thinking they are definitely handles to a footlocker or a chest of some sort.

Now if only there was a treasure buried in it...I might need to go back and check more carefully lol.
