I've been finding horse/calvary related items on my property since I purchased my metal detector 3 months ago. About a week ago I was talking to my dad and he started telling me of an old spur he found on the property years ago. This is the spur he found. Is it civil war or not? So far I've found a brass confederate horse bit, horse shoes, tie up ring, and yesterday a gag chain/sword hanger. I posted the hanger yesterday, still asking about it. Here are pics of the spur. It has a design on the part that connects to the spike wheel. It is all brass except the wheel

It is a civil war era yankee cavalry enlisted-man's spur. (Officer spurs were fancier.) Civil war relic collectors call it a "rooster-neck" spur, due to the design on the tang. (Look closely where the tang joins the U-shaped body of the spur.) The points of the rowel-wheel form the rooster's beak, comb, and wattles. The iron pin which holds the rowel forms the rooster's eye.
