Sorry guys this was my first attempt at posting a pic. The site keeps returning the message that I do not have permission, and to refresh and sign in again. I have done both. No luck. Maybe it's an iPad thing.
I tried again to post the horse bit. It rang up like a solid copper item, and it was about three inches buried. also found two wheats in the area. Modest stuff but I think the hardware is cool. The quarter is for scale. Thank you for your patience. And thank you, Subchaser, for your interest.
Yea that's a nice one...the one I found is hand forged but yours is a bit fancier, looks kinda like a English made Mullen Mouth Pelham bit....whatcha think?

Wow, that's an exact match for mine. Too bad one end is broken - I guess that's why it was tossed. I'm hoping to find a few more items in the area. Maybe the local historical society would have an interest in a display down the road.
Yea I do believe we have a winner, only thing I couldn't figure out was a time period. Saw a few pics of them but none that gave any definable dates. Keep the hunt on in that saw mill site and best of luck finding more good stuff. There's an old saw mill place near me that's now a park....do believe I'll mosey on over there this weekend and see what it turns up....it has a gravel parking lot so I'm sure I'll at least find some dropped coin.
