Horse and Buggy guru's, monogrammed horse decoration?..and buggy whip?
I found all these at an unhunted cellar site today.
The big iron is a buggy step, the tapered tube thing on the left; I know it goes on a buggy, and I think these protected the tips of the two wooden poles that hook to the sides of the horse. These always have the wear hole from dragging on the ground,,,,(looks like a whistle hole)
the small two piece cylinder thing above the monogram disc; It broke, and now it shows animal (horse tail)Hair? inside, packed tight. I think this is a decorative silver plated tip of a buggy whip? It has fancy designs. It would have the wooden handle attached to it. Any opinions?
Ok, the monogram disc. I thought it was modern, but it being made of plated brass, the back unplated side shows scale like seen on very old brass relics that have been buried a very long time. The plating may be brass? or perhaps gilt? The letters are hand engraved and not exactly perfect spacing on those tiny diagonal lines inside each letter. Does any horse harness use 4 leather straps? Would it be similar to a harness rosette?
This came from a real remote cellar without modern trash, so I am thinking it could be from the later part of the horse/buggy times?...if it even is horse related
