Cladding (metalworking) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

since 40% are not consistently mixed throughout 40%, by that standard are they not technically clad? i'm sure the amount o' clad luva's has increased by a million fold.

"consisting of outer layers of one metal bonded to a core of a different metal "

40% halves are actually 80% silver, 20% copper on the outside and 21% silver, 79% copper on the inside. This is interesting because the outside of the coin is the part that wears down due to circulation (or grinding), so really the coins would be better if the silver was on the inside and copper was on the outside, so the valuable silver is protected.

as far as I'm concerned it'll always be a 40 percenta, and not clad, but, this'll make some sad.

Yep, I've heard them called silver clad. Hope you're not too disappointed. If you want to send yours to me I'll give them a good home. :laughing7:

I could care less what they are technically called, as long as people are willing to pay a premium..

I have read and reread this post 3 times, maybe its me - but I seem to be missing the point......

That's what we always used to call them when I worked at the bank. At that time, they were so worthless we didn't even bother keeping them...

I have over 4000 of them they add up just fine!! Plus I sold 1000 of them once for $5 each. I do buy them for $4 if I can.
