You're right. Some people will say I'm careful enough I wont cut myself using it and its like driving drunk - most of the time you'll come out ok but that time when you dont you're up feces creek without a paddle.

Yes I did cut my finger on the 2 nd plug I cut, they are sharp. After about 10-15 plugs the edge was dull enough that it is safe to use.
It will get through roots and things with out much effort. It is a great tool for cutting the plugs I like it very much. The scabbard that came with it is cheap and not much use. I just slide it in the scabbard of my raptor digging tool and all is good. Good tool use full.
