I have a small collection of arrowheads or scrapers that I have found over the years.
Not sure if they are complete, broken, or incomplete discards, and I would love to know more about each one.

The first four from L to R were found 20 years ago while walking a plowed field during a deer hunting trip, about 70 miles north of the MS. coast, and 20 miles west of the Pearl River.

The last one on the right was dug recently in a field where an old homestead from the 1840s used to sit, near a local bayou on the MS Gulf Coast.
I know I'm a rookie on this topic, but this one looks incomplete to me, and river rock isn't that common on the coast.
Guess I just figured it would make more sense to go North where river rock is commonly found in creek beds, and then make the arrow heads there.
Then transport the completed ones back, instead of transporting rocks to make arrow heads that might not turn out as intended during the flaking process.

The tallest one on the left measures 2.71"L x 1.31"W, the smallest one in the middle measures 1.4" L x 1.25" W.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, and I can provide more pics and measurements if needed.

Thanks.

I see one Stemmed Point and that is the 2nd from the right. The rest all look like Preforms or Blanks to meor they could be possible Scrapers.

That's some pretty material I would also say scrapers or maybe crude knife other than the one stemmed point

Thanks for the info Grim. The one you mentioned is definitely the nicest lookin one in my meager collection.
I did not realize it was a one stemmed point. I was thinking maybe the base broke either during the flaking process or afterwards during possible use.
Guess I'm just mostly familiar with the common wide notched based type.
Here are a few better pics. After looking at Projectilepoints.net, do you think this one could be a possible Adena type point.
Adena Vanishing Stem Projectile Point
It also has a sort of Hale look to it, as well as several others at this site.

Thanks.

Thanks for replying mudman and thanks for confirming the one stemmed point theory.
Definitely some pretty grain in the first four. I wish I still had access to this land.
I have always thought the same about a couple of them being scrapers, or even the first one being a crude knife, or just preforms, but my knowledge of these type of items is very limited.
Finding the 5th one last weekend has really re-sparked my interest in points, and has me wanting to start looking and learning.

I'm from SW Ms. the points and other things that we find are mostly creek stone, some call it a chert and others call it tan Jasper just to give it a name. The pinkish red color is from heat treating, most of the stone you find in Ms. came down from very old rivers and has just been moved around a lot. I will bet there is a river like the Pearl river and others that I know have stone like what you are finding, it gets covered by the sand, but they had that knowledge of how to dig it up. Great finds:icon_thumright:

Also you can get a book called Ms. projectile points at any of the state book stores , like at the old capital and you can order it on line from them also. It will help you out.
