Wow, that's a cool button. I can't help with the ID but I'm sure someone on here can. Very nice display piece.

Oh yeah, welcome to T-Net. :hello:

Thanks a lot RPG. I've looked through a bunch of posts over the last few days since I found the place and am confident I will be here awhile!

Welcome to Tnet. I'm not 100% sure but I believe your button is a civilian and dates 1870's or so

I was just searching around and I think the rusted pieces are referred to as "steels" in the border. Here are some other buttons which remind me of the one you have -

This is a neat site to look at for cool Victorian/vintage buttons-

Very nice button, I would agree most likely late Victorian.

Interesting, it has a thistle & shield boarder of which I see at least 1 being a St Georges Cross signifying England (at about 6'o'clock). (So Thistle for Scotland, plus England but see not Dragon for Wales on any shield?)

The centre has 3 swords/daggers & 1 pistol behind armour which is a form of 'trophy' symbol normally associated with Victory of a battle or war.

Not sure what it all means but a lot going on with it :icon_scratch:

Well, thank you all so much! Now I have a few more leads to research. It sure would be nice to see another one of these and know where it came from.

Iron spike is right. I've heard them called cut steels too. I think that can also refer to the type of button.
