When I lived in Spain, we hunted on a Napoleonic battle site that had not been hunted until we
were there and dug many Solid Shot cannon balls, but we also dug out of this place 5-6
large and mediem round morter shells, these were unexploded (there were fragments of these all over this
place) and turned out to have hemp fuses.
The cannon balls were so rusted that at first we thought all were solid shot, as the fuse holes
were partially covered over with rust.
but the ordanance balls were quiet a bit bigger more the size of bowling balls.
One of my friends put one he found in water and cleaned the fuse out and powder and kept it.
The rest I really don't know what happened to all of them.
I remember putting one on the floor in the backseat of my car and driving home before I realized
that it was one of the ordanance shells...
No, none exploded..... but once you know the truth it can be kinda be nerve racking...
