Hook, Line and Sinker!!!

I'm new to MDing but have always fancied myself as an adventurer/treasure hunter. I stumbled upon this site and haven't stopped reading stories and looking at pictures along with my 10 year old son. I live in Upstate NY and feel that the area is rich in history and has huge potential. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good detector for a new guy? Cause little does Santa know, he's getting this guy a detector! I've been looking at a Fisher F5 and the F2. What do you guys think?
