cant help ya...but congrats very cool find.I once saw a travel trunk(1800s)with a couple hangers like it inside.not for clothes,but for smaller stuff.

It's a late Victorian picture/portrait hanger. Here's another one that was just found recently; it's shaped differently, but still a picture hanger.

Breezie it seems you have IDed quite a lot of these hangers this year, going for a record of some sort? Hahahaha:icon_thumright:

the house i was raised in had 12 foot ceilings with "picture molding" around the base of the cove way up high. the idea was that instead of pounding through the plaster and lathe you hang these decorative hooks way up high and suspend mirrors and pictures off of them down lower on wires.
