I found this last week and didn’t think much about it but then I was watching a video by GMMD and he found one exactly like it in the mountains of Vermont. I’ve been searching on line and can’t find anything. Anyone know what it was used for? ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1555723172.800170.jpg

Thanks,

utility hanger maybe. would work well for hanging a lantern from a tree for example. Is piece opposite the hook copper?

Yes, it’s all copper. I’ve heard of three of these found recently. One one Vermont and two in Massachusetts. No one knows what they are. I think it’s some kind of cloak clasp, not sure though.

Very interesting find.
The amount of detail on the chain links is incredible, this piece was meant to be seen!
Here's an example of a cloak clasp I found online, it's not exactly the same but you get the general idea.

Nice find Upham!

I also like the chain links and think it's something intended to be seem on one's person. I looks like something you'd hang on your belt but not all the time?

Best wishes!
