Honkin Men's Nugget Ring with Diamonds & 23KT Gold Bracelet

Hello to all!

I went on vaction last week so it was good to get out again today and swing. It was a special day to because recently, I was able to pick up a new "ole trustry" Garrett TR machine almost like my original. For those who don't know, I use this machine to pillage the woodchips so effeciently. It's a jewelry finder for sure! It's an early 1980's machine. I have an ACE 250 also for the more traditional hunts. Got it cheap and it's about new, barely been used. There are only like four scratches on the bottom of the coil and the rest of it is totally clean and mint. ;D ;D I have been having problems all summer with my original machine. It pulses giving false signals and this have been aggravating. It is still working most times but I am sure I have missed a lot of targets with the pulsing noises. I have still managed it most days, finding enough... I am not complaining. I will probably send it in to Garrett's for a tune up this winter. Anyway, I have a new one to use now too!!

So I took the new baby out today for it's first hunt and wasn't disappointed. I hit a park I have been eyeing for several weeks, crack of dawn before anyone was there. We got bad storms last night, tornados in the area, and about 3 inches of rain. My detector always seems to work better when the ground is moist like this. It was still sprinkling this morning but I drove the 25 miles there anyway and put a plastic shopping bag over the detector box to protect it from the the light rain. This park has a huge woodchip area and a volleyball court for easy picking areas.

The volleyball court was next to the parking lot so I decided to hit that first. There is a basketball court right next to it with about 10 feet of grass between them. Fired up the new toy and started at the edge of the B-Ball court in the grass heading towards and aiming for a pass down one side of the net on the volleyball court. I swang the detector three passes and got a signal. Dug it and out of the grass plug pops a really nice large men's gold nugget ring. Wooowhooo!!!! The first signal with the new detector is a sweet gold and diamond ring!!! It's hallmarked "SPJ-10K" and "Magic-Glo" The ring is probably worth at least five times what I paid for the detector. It was a sign of things to come! The ring also fits my right ring finger perfectly. Love that wearable treasure!! I didn't find anything in the sand part of the volleyball court but I covered the grassy areas on all four sides of it really well and pulled 3 more rings out of the dirt and a lot of coins. Two of the rings are large 925 sterling ones. I was pumped!!

After finishing there I went over and covered the entire woodchip area 100%. I pulled a lot of coins, trinkets, and a few more keepers. The first was another small 925 ring, maybe a toe ring. Then a large thick 925 hoop earring. Then broken 925 thin chain. These were found near the play structures. Near the swings I found a cool large coin. I guess it is a Greek coin, 100 somethings, golden color and about the size of a Morgan dollar. One crazy find two swingpaths out from the swings, the ugliest ring I have ever found. It's homemade, from brass I think and weighs about a pound...lol

While going around the far edge of the woodchip area, right against the plastic border away from any play equipment, I found a beautiful treasure. It's a kids size chain bracelet. It is a very bright gold color and kind of heavy for a small chain bracelet, maybe 5 or 6 grams. Checking the hallmark when I got home, it reads .958... 23kt gold!!! Almost pure. A first for me to find that pure of gold item.

It was a great day out there. The rain started falling harder so I finished up the woodchips and headed home. Lots of finds with the new toy. A utilility razor knife, a 30 cal hunting bullet, trinkets including a couple earrings, 1 more ring, 10 pendants, 6 hair barretts, one nice mother mary pendant, and two crosses. Of course like normal, a least two full pouchfulls of trash as I dig it all (and dispose of the trash like we all should).

Aug 25th dirty.jpg

Here's the totals. 4 1/2 hours hunt time. 213 coins for a $13.67 face value. All the trinkets and keepers... a great day!! This was my 6th weekend hunt in a row with 200 plus coins. On a roll!!

I just love my keepers today. This is such a great hobby huh!!!

The ring is on my finger right now and that 23kt bracelet is one I will remember.

Nice finds i have a old groundhog my first detector a and did very well with it. still works. What did you pay for your new one. Bob.

Including shipping, around $60 which made me happy when I found out how new it looked when I got it. My first detector was a Compass Coinshooter back in the 70's.
Thanks for stopping in!

HH.

Funny you say that as I did have some issues with it the next time out. lol
It's a battery or connetor thing and I'll get it figured out.
I will always remenber the first signal with it was the sweet goldie!
Thanks Sheldius!

Wow great hunt...it is amazing that you can go out once a week and have 6200 coins....i go out 3 -4 times a week and only have about 500 more then you! Also the woodchip areas by you are unbelievable! I go to the busiest tot lots with wood chip in a town of 2 million people and sweep as slowly as possible also removing everything and the most i have ever pulled from a tot lot is 124 coins some maybe 20-30 coins then move to grass...To pull over 200 coins every week with all that trash you should make a video...seriously...it would be amazing to watch with all that trash seeing someone pick up maybe 500 items counting trash in 4 1/2 hours...Surprised you never run into one that has been hunted....some have all the luck! :)

Thanks Greg

I think about 80 or 90% of the places I have hunted this year had signs of recent MD'ing, fresh holes in the chips, sometimes with a nice trash present left at the bottom for me to dig and disgard. I think my ole trusty just sniffs em out a bit more completely then the newer detectors at least ij the chips... my opinion based on my consistant good hauls the past two summers at schoolyards.

Good luck to you reaching your 10,000 coin goal. That will be amazing. I'll never get there this year. Maybe 7,500??

But I am getting out 3-4 days a week..to be able to get the amount you are getting is really something hunting one day a week.. i probably average 20-25 coins an hour...and have a ton more hours put in then you...I bet in the wood chips you average around 40 an hour from what I can tell. On a good day when I am shooting for 100...I try to average 30 an hour in the dirt...of course this involves cherry picking and also a lot of stinkin zincolns!

That's pretty good Greg!! I am averaging exactly 40.000 coins per hour for the year. 8)

I would call what I do most hunts "cherry picking" too just covering the woodchips and moving on to the next school or park and covering only the woodchips.

I would guess the biggest difference is I dig it all and my old TR doesn't require pinpionting like the modern machines. I am comparing it to my ACE250 which take a while to pinpoint over the target. There are no "decisions" to be made waisting time with the ole TR machine searching all metal mode, just dig. It simply beeps over metal and the centering the strongest sound on the target is where I dig. That take like 3 swings of the detector, maybe 5 seconds tops. Then "digging" in the chips is so much quicker then in the grass. I can usually pop it out first plunge (75% of the time) and that takes 5 to 10 seconds. I rarely set my machine down, digging and picking the find up with my left hand and then filling the woodchip hole in with my foot and packing down. All increase my efficiency. I would say 80% of my finds this year are out of the woodchips.

I guess weekends like this one in July help to boost the totals too. :)

You are amazingly fast and efficient finding all those coins and stuff in that time digging mainly in the grass. Very inpressive buddy. Keep it up. Get 10,000!!!

Bobby,

WOW. You are a jewelry magnet. I will say one thing for you that I rarely see posted on your finds. You due pay your dues. Each time I see one of your posts you have dug up a bit of trash and a huge pile of coinage. Lots and lots of digging.

I dig most all signals on tot lots and playground areas or atleast I did when I was detecting a lot. Difference here is 3rd lowest economy in U.S., so peps having and loosing the jewelry is much harder down here. But I do still find a few pieces here and there.

Seeing your posts and finds keeps me motivated to keep digging up those signals even if mostly trash here.

Great finds and thanks for the motivation. Seeing you posts always get me fired and show me that there is hope in finding some great jewelry to those folks that do not live near the beach.
